On Monday, April 21, 2025, Know AML will be observing AML World Awareness Day and launching a campaign with our ambassadors, global network, and community to raise awareness about acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
The goal of AML World Awareness Day is to educate and support individuals affected by AML, particularly in regards to the long-term physical and psychological effects of treatment. Many people are not aware of the impact that AML treatment can have on a patient’s overall health and well-being, as well as the available management and support options for these long-term effects. Additionally, there is a lack of knowledge about strategies for supporting patients during and after AML treatment, as well as where to find further information and practical advice.
In order to address these gaps, Know AML will be developing an interactive guide and downloadable PDF about the impact of AML treatment on a patient’s long-term physical and psychological health. This guide will be divided into easily digestible chapters and will be available for individuals around the world to access and share. The organization is also encouraging people to show their support by using the hashtag #KnowAML on social media and sharing graphics and resources related to AML World Awareness Day 2025.
Know AML ambassador and patient, Anna Mamwell, expressed her excitement about the initiative, stating, “I’m pleased that this was chosen, certainly, something I have struggled with so raising awareness will be great.” Christine Verini, CEO of CancerCare, also shared her support for the campaign, saying, “As patients, survivors, caregivers and advocates, it is our responsibility to ensure that those affected by AML are given the opportunity to raise awareness and advocate for themselves, in addition to having the resources, education and support they need to navigate life both during and beyond treatment.”
